The "AHK Startup Desk" is an initiative of the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry & Commerce (AHK) to promote, incubate, and expand German startups into the UAE and the GCC region, and vice versa; helping startups and young entrepreneurs that have started their ventures in Germany and wish to tap into thriving UAE and MENA Region start-up ecosystem by facilitating business and community outreach.
The AHK Startup Desk will host a startup competition in Q4 2021. Chosen startups will participate at selected events and activities in the framework of the German outreach to EXPO 2020, and will be sponsored for 3 months with accommodation, offices, and operations covered. Startups will benefit as well from diversified mentorship by the AHK Startup Desk and its professional Steering Committee.
Dr. Mazdak Rafaty, the chairman of the AHK Startup Desk will be illustrating and explaining the role of the desk and the criteria and selection process of German startups to participate in the incubation programme.
Dr. Rafaty has more than 14 years of international professional experience and is specialized on different aspects of Entrepreneurship, Foreign Direct Investment and start-up mentoring. As the Chairman and co-initiator of the German-Emirati Startup Desk of AHK he actively contributes to building a bridge between the German and Middle Eastern start-up communities and tech scenes. He published his views on economic development of MEA Region in the fDi Magazine of the Financial Times.
