In today's world of rapid technological breakthroughs, appropriate cybersecurity strategies have become more important than ever before. As technologies such as IoT, AI, and ML continue to advance, so do cyberattacks and Cyber-crime. Nearly all businesses, regardless of size, are vulnerable to cyber-attacks; highlighting the importance of implementing cybersecurity strategies and policies.

 By 2025, cybercrime is expected to cost the world $10.5 trillion. Are you all set? 

▪ In 2021, cybercrime will have cost the world $6 trillion.

▪ In the first quarter of 2020, the GCC recorded 3067 Covid-19 cyber-attacks, 1737 email spam attacks, 1114 malware threats, and 213 URL attacks.

▪ Between January and June 2020, the UAE saw 70,000 cyber-attacks on cell phones, with a surge during quarantine.

▪ Around 5.4 million Distributed Denial of Services (DDoS) attacks in the first half of this year - an increase of 11% over the same period in 2020.

▪ Being the number one threat for the UAE, 49 percent of UAE firms have experienced a significant ransom attack where the UAE has seen an “at least 250% increase and as a result, the average cost of data breaches in the UAE and Saudi Arabia hit $5.9 million in 2019 with a 12.45% year-on-year increase.

▪ The average cost of resolving the impact of such an attack, which included business downtime, missed orders, and operational costs but not the ransom, was more than $730,000 - when the ransom is added to the cost, it soars to more than $1.4 million.

▪ After the cyber pandemic that the region has faced recently, and according to the UAE decided to launch the biggest cyber security budget in their history with a total expenditure of nearly USD 79 billion.
